Egypt 2003
In the summer of 2003, i (Paul) was for 2 weeks in Sharm el Sheikh, for diving.
I stayed in the Hilton . My stay in the Hilton was excellent. Made some good friends while i was there. The food and the service where great, so i can advise it to everybody who will go there and need a place to stay.
Allthough people told me good things about "The Emperor Divers". I was personally not impressed with the way they run their business.
But maybe it had to do that i was without a buddy, and that they where very busy. But next time i will try my luck somewhere else.
The diving.
Diving in Sharm el Sheik is not as relaxed as it was in Hurghada. First, it was far more crowded then it was in Hurghada, but that was because of the season. And second, they only have two harbours in Sharm el Sheikh from where several boats are leaving for the diving spots, and practically all at the same time.
An other thing was the current. There was far more current underwater in Sharm el Sheikh, then there was in Hughada. This made some dives hard work, instead of relaxed diving.
Be for every dive we had a briefing. The divemaster showed us a drawing about the underwater situation, explained us where to look, and what to expect, like the chance on sharks, triggerfish, current and other special things to look out for.
But, on of the things in favour of Sharm el Sheikh, was the chance to meet bigger things, like dolphins, sharks, like hammerhead and black reef tip sharks. Big groupers (over 1.5 m / 5 Ft.), Napoleonfish, turtles and some other big fish.
Here are some underwater pictures
The underwater life in Egypt is very colorfull, as you can see by the pictures i took. If you click on the pictures they will open to a bigger size picture.
